From Seed to Export: The Journey of Coocoo (Chocho) Coffee
Discover the fascinating process that transforms a tiny seed into the rich, flavorful coffee in your cup.
The coffee tree, scientifically known as Coffea, is native to tropical Africa. This flowering plant produces the coffee cherries that contain the beans we know and love. Over centuries, coffee has spread worldwide, becoming an essential part of global culture.

Step 1: Planting the Seed
Coffee trees begin as seeds, planted in nurseries
Step 2: Growing the Tree
Coffee plants need a warm spot with bright, indirect light. They’re best grown as house plants or in a greenhouse.

Step 3: Harvesting the Cherries
All coffee fruit is removed from the tree, regardless of maturation state. Both ripe and unripe cherries are harvested
Step 4: Processing Coffee Bean or Roasted
There are two main methods for processing coffee in Ethiopia – the sun-dried and the wet-washed processing techniques (we have both in our roasteries, so feel free to try them out and find your favorite).

Step 5: Packaging & Exporting
Cargo ships commonly transport coffee beans and roasted, whether packed in Full Container Load (FCL) or Less than Container Load (LCL).
